The new Gershwin tuner Nice Work If You Can Get It begins performances March 29, starring Tony winner Matthew Broderick and three-time Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara. The musical features a score packed with hit George and Ira Gershwin songs and a new book by Joe DiPietro. Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, Nice Work If You Can Get It will open officially on April 24 at the Imperial Theatre.
Set during the Prohibition Era, Nice Work If You Can Get It is the story of Jimmy (Broderick), a wealthy playboy who meets rough-and-tough bootlegger Billie (O’Hara) on the night of his nuptials. The new musical is a madcap tale of bootleggers, chorus girls, playboys and politicians set loose in a glamorous Long Island mansion. Nice Work includes 15 classic Gershwin hits, including “But Not For Me,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
In addition to Broderick and O’Hara, Nice Work stars Judy Kaye as Estonia Dulworth, Michael McGrath as Cookie McGee, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Eileen Evergreen, Terry Beaver as Senator Max Evergreen, Robyn Hurder as Jeannie Muldoon, Stanley Wayne Mathis as Chief Berry, Estelle Parsons as Millicent Winter and Chris Sullivan as Duke Mahoney. The new musical also features Cameron Adams, Clyde Alves, Kaitlyn Davidson, Jason DePinto, Kimberly Faure, Robert Hartwell, Stephanie Martignetti, Barrett Martin, Michael X. Martin, Vivian Nixon, Adam Perry, Jeffrey Schecter, Jennifer Smith, Joey Sorge, Samantha Sturm and Kristen Beth Williams.
The Nice Work creative team includes set designer Derek McLane, costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, lighting designer Peter Kaczorowski and sound designer Brian Ronan.
